Event ‘Bringing Space down to Earth – Smart Cities Services’

ENVENA Ltd. attended the event ‘Bringing Space down to Earth – Smart Cities Services’ which took place on the 30th of October 2014 at the ‘Node of Innovation and Entrepreneurship of the Municipality of Athens- INNOVATHENS’.
The event was structured in three sections: a) presentation of applications using satellite data services to residents and organisations of the city, b) presentation of technologies and platforms for the collection and processing of open city data, and c) selected cities present their vision to serve the needs of citizens directly through new innovative services, and indirectly by offering a wide variety of open data.

16th COSMO General Meeting.

The 2014 COSMO (Consortium for Small Scale Modeling) General Meeting will be organized and hosted by the Hellenic National Meteorological Service. It will take place in Greece, at the town of Eretria, from September 8th to 11th. The SMC meeting is scheduled for Thursday afternoon (11/9) and Friday morning (12/9). The General Meeting will take place at the conference centre of hotel ‘Negroponte Resort’, approximately 3.5 km from the Eretria town.

Public consultation on the new ‘National Waste Management Plan’ and on the new ‘National Waste Production Prevention Plan’.

Today, February 10th, as part of the public consultation on the new ‘National Waste Management Plan’ and on the new ‘National Waste Production Prevention Plan’, a day conference took place to present the first chapters of the proposed plans. The discussion that followed the presentation focused on ways to improve-amend the proposed plans.

Day Conference ‘Program on Energy in Horizon 2020’.

The Day Conference organized by the National Documentation Centre (NDC) on the Energy Programme under the ‘Horizon 2020′ took place today. ENVENA Ltd attended the Day Conference, in which speakers were, among others, Mr. A.Kotronaros (Gen. Depart. of Energy, EU) and Dr. V.Kougionas (Gen. Depart. of Research and Innovation, EU).

According to the EU, “Horizon 2020 is the biggest EU Research and Innovation programme ever with nearly €80 billion of funding available over 7 years (2014 to 2020) – in addition to the private investment that this money will attract. It promises more breakthroughs, discoveries and world-firsts by taking great ideas from the lab to the market.”

The NDC acts as the National Contact Point for the program ‘Horizon 2020’, supporting the Greek organisations in their participation in the program.

The ‘Hellenic Recycling Organisation’ in collaboration with the magazine and website ‘Water & Waste’ organized on Friday, December 20, 2013 a meeting on the subject:
Recycling: Alternative Management Systems have their say.

The event took place during the events of the ‘Money Show’ at Hilton Hotel. The ‘Hellenic Recycling Organisation’ presented the evolution of recycling in our country and the individual systems (for the alternative management of waste such as batteries and accumulators, packaging waste, etc.) presented their operations and prospects.

Awards for the Municipalities with the highest recycling rates.

On the 28th of May 2013 the National Recycling Organisation (www.eoan.gr) awarded the Municipalities with the highest recycling rates in Greece, which were the ones of Volos, Emanuel Papa, Kalamata, Kifisia, Lypson, Syros-Ermoupolis and Chania.

According to the National Recycling Organisation, in 2012 the following recycling rates were achieved:
• 50% of packaging waste
• 35% of waste of electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE)
• 50% of used portable batteries
• 36% of used accumulators
• 94% of waste vehicle tires
• 54% of waste oils

Presentation of “Geocilma”.

On the 28th of May 2013 the presentation of the project “Geocilma” took place at the main building of the Hellenic National Meteorological Organisation (HNMS) in Athens – Hellinikon. As mentioned in the home page at http://www.geoclima.eu/ “The project Geoclimate aims at developing an integrated Geographic Information System (GIS) allowing the user to manage, analyze and visualize the information which is directly or indirectly related to climate and its future projections in Greece. oLIVE-CLIMA.

On the 28th of May 2013 the 2nd Meeting of Project “oLIVE-CLIMA “ took place in Athens. The project is called “oLIVE-CLIMA – Introduction of new olive crop management practices focused on climate change mitigation and adaptation .” and according to the Project description “The main aim of the oLIVE-CLIMA project is to trial the introduction of new cultivation practices for tree crops in order to find a cost-effective means of mitigating and adapting to climate change. The project will focus specifically on olive-producing areas in Greece, investigating the potential of these areas to increase carbon sequestration by soils, and to reduce GHG emissions. It will work with farmers from three farmers’ organisations that reflect the different socio-economic situations currently prevalent in Greece; from more traditional farming, to innovative environmentally sensitive farming.”
